Our railways are the safest form of land transport in the UK. This is because generations of railway men and women have learned lessons from incidents in the past. This special issue looks at some of the accidents and disasters that stemmed from signals passed at danger, and how we are using those lessons to prevent incidents today.

We will be looking at the risks in the early railway, what we can learn from our recent history, and how we are reducing risks even further for the future.
