Enhancing the safety of train operations is one of the twelve key risk areas the rail industry is addressing in its strategy, Leading Health and Safety on Britain’s Railways (LHSBR).

Train Accident Risk Group (TARG) is the group delivering work to address the challenges in the ‘Train Operations’ risk area. TARG’s challenges and risk topics cover the broad range of factors which impact on train accident risk i.e. SPAD’s, over-speeding, adhesion, objects on the line etc, and this covers improvement to processes, rules, technologies, risk management and competence within these areas.
